Durham

Steeped in history, Durham is one of the country’s prettiest cities and is imbued with a peaceful tranquillity which makes visitors feel like they’ve stepped back in time.

Atop a hill, a stunning cathedral and spectacular castle stand almost side by side, creating a most striking view for any people passing below; cobbled streets, lined with shops and cafés, wind down from on high to a picturesque bridge, under which pass little rowing boats as they float down the tree-lined river. All of these things combine to make Durham one of the most charming University towns in Britain and a wonderful place to visit.

The city itself is surrounded by the splendid countryside in the magnificent Durham Dales and the whole county is full of marvellous heritage sites.
