Durham Castle

Durham Castle was built in 1072 upon the orders of William the Conqueror, shortly after the Normans first came to the North foloowing their conquest of England. Since 1837 the Castle has been home to University College and many students of Durham University live in the Castle each year. Guests can take guided tours of the Castle which will teach them more about its 900 year history as well as its function in the city today. It is also possible for visitors to spend the night in the castle and private fine dining in one of the Castle's magnificent rooms can be arranged.
